Benchmarking

Energy Benchmarking

Energy benchmarking is a means by which you are able to understand your current energy use and compare it to similar facilities.  It provides the benchmark that is used to determine the benefits of energy efficiency measures and alternate energy sources.

Energy benchmarking is increasingly being required by many states, counties and cities.  Regulatory agencies in many of these have adopted regulations mandating that utility customers having large commercial or industrial buildings must benchmark their facilities.

The tools used by the utilities vary but most agencies require the use of EPA's Portfolio Manager. Here is a useful link to the Portfolio Manager site - https://www.energystar.gov/buildings/facility-owners-and-managers/existing-buildings/use-portfolio-manager

Our 10 years experience with benchmarking began in California with the adoption of AB 1103.  As the result of the regulation we worked with a large California utility to develop their automated benchmarking services to provide an interface with EPA.  Since that time we have worked with numerous utility customers on various benchmarking requests.  The customers range from real estate property managers, office buildings, shopping centers, commercial and industrial facilities.  Our services have varied from simple consultations to complete benchmarking analysis.

We are able to work with the utilities to get you the data needed, along with customer and tenant releases,   While we are waiting for the utility to provide or verify information we can create and set up a Portfolio Manager account for you.

We are here to help you any way we can with you benchmarking needs. Please feel free to contact us so that we can help.
